Title- Canvas of Change

post by Admin on July 18, 2025
Revolution has many forms. Every person fighting to bring a change holds on to a weapon. Some use swords, some words, some technology, and some Art. It’s surprising how Art, a beautiful medium that we see as visual pleasure and a medium of expression, for the artist, is more than that. It is an instrument of change, persuading society to think and act on their actions. Actions that harm the world we live in. And that is when an Artist becomes an Activist. In frame- Artist Gopal Namjoshi Gopal Namjoshi, a painter, a sculptor, a muralist, an Activist, draws the world’s attention to his Art and underlying cause of waste by his large installations made of metal scrap. Tiny metal pieces that we discard without thinking once, becomes his medium for creating. For Gopal, his art installations shall not be just aesthetic but provoke meaningful dialogues between the viewers. For 10 years, he has been upcycling and shaping kgs of metal junk into powerful messages touching on the subjects of ‘co-existence, eco-logical conservation, patriarchy, wildlife conservation and many other societal issues. While Gopal made the hard core metal and huge installations his voice, Nayan and Venus, the founders of Paper Ark found comfort and joy in miniature art crafted with paper. Birds, beasts and bugs come to life in miniature form through the artistic vision of the duo. Nayan masters the art of cuts, slicing each layer of feathers and features precisely, making his work artistic but also technical. Venus, a watercolourist, adds depth and life to these forms with her colour palette. Her love for birds shines not only through her name but also every piece she creates, painting layers with exact shade on such a small scale. What started as exercise in attention, turned into a responsibility of educating people about nature and its dwellers. Nature walks got them chasing and painting species that might vanish from our habitat tomorrow, or might be already gone.
